Coca-Cola Canada has launched a Canada 150 commemorative 222 mL mini-can to celebrate the country’s birthday. This small and convenient package of Coca-Cola is great to pack in your bike baskets/crates. So follow along on two-part series of where to ride and gather with friends and family on Ottawa’s best bike paths. Let’s go!

Mooney’s Bay

Mooney’s Bay Park is easily accessible by bicycle from the Rideau River Eastern pathway. Pack your bikes down with a picnic basket, water, beach towel, sunscreen, floaties (my watermelon floatie is my favourite) and a swimsuit. Bring some cash for delicious ice cream at the Beach Shack. The beach is supervised all summer so get your giant floaties out and have a floatie party in the water. There are plenty of BBQ’s as well so best to bring charcoal with you!

Ornamental Gardens

If a beach isn’t your thing why not have a garden themed get together with your friends at the Ornamental Gardens. Bring blankets to sit on the grass and enjoy the beautiful flowers and plants that are maintained by the Friends of the Farm. The lilacs and peonies are my favourite flowers to sit close to and enjoy their beauty.

Canal/Arboretum

For a scenic bike tour, ride along the Rideau Canal Western pathway and head over to the Dominion Arboretum.  There are 26 hectares of beautiful trees and shrubs. It’s a perfect place for a picnic.
