VAYA BAG REVIEW

Hi Velo Voguers! A few weeks ago we were approached by a company called Vaya Bags from New York to review one of their messenger bags. It’s always flattering to be approached to do reviews but once we read the story behind the company we couldn’t have been more thrilled!

Vaya Bags are handmade by Tianna Meilinger as well as some of her family members and Friends. Because Tia’s a strong believer in reusing and recycling, the canvas used to make the bags is scrap and surplus material that is recycled from local sailboat factories. So not only are you getting a stylish messenger bag, but you’re also reducing your carbon footprint with your purchase!

VAYA BAG REVIEW

We chose to review the Petite Messenger Bag. Right off the bat we loved the striped design and vibrant colours of the bag. It was also great that it came in a size that wouldn’t be overbearing for our “petite” frames.

For a petite sized bag we were impressed by the amount of items we could fit in it. This sized bag would be great for running day to day errands or meeting up with friends. I could see using it for my rides to the gym or work. There was more than enough space for my notebook, water bottles, umbrella and photography book.

VAYA BAG REVIEW

The bag has two small pockets on the inside and some easy access pockets on the front. I liked that these pockets had Velcro covers to keep my items secure. I stored my Iphone and debit card in them.

The construction of the bag is very well done. The materials used and the stitching look very durable. Although I only used it for a week I can tell that this bag can take a beating. They used waterproof material for both the outer shell and inner lining so there’s no need to worry about getting caught in the rain.

The straps used for carrying the bag were fairly straight forward to attach. I liked the addition of an extra strap on the side to prevent the bag from bouncing up and down when riding. All straps are adjustable for a perfect fit and the main strap is padded. It makes the bag very comfortable to carry.

VAYA BAG REVIEW

The back panel of the bag is padded for comfort as well. The nice feature of carrying a messenger bag is that you don’t have to suffer from the discomfort and heat experienced with backpacks. I usually transport my items with a pannier bag but I really appreciated having my items on me. I felt more secure carrying my personal items on my back or side while riding.

VAYA BAG REVIEW

Overall we really liked Vaya’s Petite Messenger bag. It is functional, durable, comfortable and stylish. This bag is an example of small businesses that get it right. Great product with a great story behind it!
