NAME: Jamie Stuckless
OCCUPATION: Transportation Demand Management Project Coordinator with EnviroCentre
WHERE YOU HEADING: Cafe Morala for some lemonade!
WHAT ARE YOU RIDING: Glebe Cruiser from Kunstadt Sports
WHY DO YOU RIDE: For me, cycling is the most convenient way to get to work, see friends and go shopping. Getting on my bike in the morning to ride along the canal also makes me feel relaxed and happy.
IF YOU COULD CHANGE ONE THING ABOUT BIKING IN OTTAWA WHAT WOULD IT BE: As the network of cycling lanes and pathways continues to grow, I would like to see improved connections between bike facilities and fewer gaps where cyclists are asked to dismount or merge into traffic.
WHAT ARE YOU WEARING:
- Shirt: Milk Shop
- Pants: Victoire
- Shoes: John Fluevog
- Necklace: Gift from parents
- Watch: Magpie
FAVOURITE SPOTS TO BIKE: This weekend, I biked to Bate Island and the Aylmer Marina for the first time and they have definitely been added to my list of favourite cycling destinations! Another recreational ride that is high on my list: picking up food in Hintonburg and setting up a picnic along the Ottawa River. When I am choosing cycling routes for commuting purposes, I will go out of my way (within reason) to bike along the pathways and the Laurier Avenue bike lane.
FAVOURITE PLACE TO STOP AFTER A RIDE: Anywhere with a patio and convenient bike parking.
BIKE TO WORK MONTH:This May, I am excited to be coordinating Bike to Work Month, in partnership with the City of Ottawa. If you bike to work, or think that you might like to give it a try this month, you can sign up for our free online contest and become eligible to win over $8,000 worth of donated prizes (www.biketoworkottawa.com). What are you waiting for? Sign-up now to show your support for cycling and for your chance to win great prizes from Kunstadt Sports, Victoire, Riyoko and more. And the best prize of all? You’ll be riding your bike! This is the fourth year that EnviroCentre and the City of Ottawa have worked together to promote biking to work.
